That’s what this editorial is about. ![]() ![]() Clearly, the older test has some limits and the newer proposed test seeks to address those deficiencies. The test is a response to the fact that Pacific Rim fails the much more popular and long-established “Bechdel Test” but, for that user, was indeed a good representation of a female character, as I’ve already said. One of the fallouts of Pacific Rim has been that a Tumblr user came up with the “Mako Mori Test” to evaluate female characters in movies. You can read my thoughts on Mako in my review of the movie here. I myself fall in the latter camp because I loved the character and I was able to look beyond what false trap that the character generates and consider her within the context of her culture and her own dialogue. Do Premkumars films pass Bechdel Test, Mako Mori Test, The Sexy Lamp. Así que su test plantea tres preguntas: 1. Research Questions: The Research Questions are: 1. Many people have condemned her as a weak, ineffectual protagonist, while others have hailed her as a great example of strong representation of female characters in movies. Mako Mori (interpretada por Rinko Kikuchi) es una mujer asiática, compleja, no sexualizada, central en la trama. Specifically, people have been talking about the characterisation of Mako Mori, the only female character of note in the movie. test if a film, television show or work of fiction has at least one male character who has an independent plot arc which does. Also listed below are some movies that don’t technically pass the Bechdel Test.In the wake of the international success of Guillermo del Toro’s latest movie, Pacific Rim, there has been a lot of chatter about the characterisation in the movie. It is, after all, hard to pigeon-hole many movies/books/songs into one conformity. It is a pretty basic test for the representation of women, as is the Bechdel test. For example, IT by Stephen King passes the test because of a short exchange between Beverly, one of the main characters, and a girl who bullies her, but IT doesn’t have an outstanding female cast - Beverly is the only significant female character and King frequently includes descriptors of women’s nipples as an indicator of their feelings, which I find random and unnecessary, although I like his stories. It does not make a movie automatically feminist. Mako Mori is also remarkable because her character inspired a new perspective on understanding female-friendly film. A movie could pass on a technicality but still demonstrate the influence of a majority male perspective in media, or vice versa. Rather, it should remind creators that solid representation of women is important, and also not that hard to achieve. After all, it’s originally satirical commentary on representation of women in media - the Bechdel Test is not supposed to extend past surface level analysis. While there are many yardsticks that help determine whether a film really talks about women empowerment, like the Bechdel test (1985), The Mako Mori test. However, there are some exceptions with this test. ![]()
